If you have some time, a lot of time, I recommend you listen to this lecture given by one of the greatest and most influential American writers. I've included 2 of the 3 lectures which are still on Youtube. Even without the final part (of which I am deeply disappointed that it is missing), this is a very illuminating and highly relevant lecture. William S. Burroughs was the grandfather of the Beat Generation and here he speaks on the links between art, writing, film, and reading between the lines. It's highly cerebral and if not helping make you a better writer overall, it will help you to examine and understand how writers put together their works. Examination is one of the most important things to creative writing.
