    Experimenting

July 1, 2017 by Kyle Meadows

I'm currently labbing some other ways to tell stories in this big mythos I'm building. I have a preference for long stories myself because I love depth, detail, and content. But! No bones about it, shorter stories are something that I think I need to work on doing, if for nothing else than attempting the practice brevity. I'm going to use some of the shorter pieces as narratives that are connected to the whole but more or less complete. As I don't have a complete grasp on how exactly this will look, I expect this to be bumpy until I have a hang on it.

I'm also going to toy with a different kind of horror here. The cosmic implications will exist, but I'm going to attempt with the next story I publish to push the horror into the background. I…

I'm really excited for the future. Yes, my writing skills are going to require tons of improvement, but I'd like to say that as it stands I'm at a level decent enough to start actually outputting some stories not regularly (which I would prefer) but of a roughly consistent make. I will eventually revisit "I Met the White Herald" and revise it accordingly, as there are some structural errors I'm thoroughly unsatisfied with. One thing that I really want to overcome in my writing does occur within that story, where as I revise the piece while writing it I'll end up jumbling thoughts together, and it's quite an irritiating negative trait.

While it might not have blown up on site, the story "I Met the White Herald" has already proved to give me a bit of a boost in confidence. While I firmly believe I could make it better in the future (something I will certainly try as my skills develop) it has interesting enough content that people who have read it in the real world have seemed to shift towards an attitude that reinforces within me the notion that I can do this. So, I fully intend to make more little stories like this. This particular story relates to one of my favorite creations, but he is not my only horror from beyond the stars. I have been inspired to try yet more! While I don't have a timeline, I will certainly try to have it up soon.

And maybe by then I'll have a grasp…

I'm here for the same reason I imagine a lot of you may be- primarily that I enjoy writing. I've always been fascinated by things that I find terrifying. Reportedly, I used to watch scary movies from behind a couch in the living room. I don't mind things that make me scream, recoil, or squirm. I have a fascination with making myself uncomfortable. I don't just mean in terms of the media I consume, though that is neither here nor there. The more I've lived my life, however, the more I discover that while there are plenty of things that can easily squeeze reactions out of me there are very few things that terrify me.

I will quite honestly claim that a certain event and the context surrounding it has removed most of my fear of death. If anythi…
