I hadn't planned on writing about this today, I really didn't. I planned to write about whether or not One More Day would work for Deadpool. But I read something so stupid, so idiotic, that I just had to comment.
Anyway, I read that there was a rumor that Sony was planning to do a movie about Aunt May, Peter Parker's aunt/mother figure, before she Peter Parker became Spider-Man. And, oh yeah, she was supposed to be a spy.
When I first read about this, I just had to take a second to wrap my head around the stupidity of this idea. I mean, it would make more sense if it was about Peter Parker's parents; in the comics, they actually were spies, and worked for SHIELD. No joke. But Aunt May...? Just...what the fuck?
Now, granted, this rumor turned out to be false, thankfully, but it does make a point about what's going on with Sony and the Spider-Man franchise: basically, they have no idea what the hell they're doing. I talked a bit about this in my "Should Spider-Man Join The Avengers" post, but it bears repeating: please, Sony, please just make a deal with Marvel Studios so that they can have Spider-Man. They have a plan. They know what they're doing. And also, there's going to be a Civil War movie, a comic storyline that heavily features Spidey. Please, Sony, let Marvel get back Spider-Man.
Hopefully they take my advice, but in the mean time, Sinister Six is supposed to come out in...2016? Venom is supposed to come out...never, I think. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is supposed to come out in...2018? And the unnamed female superhero movie is supposed to come out...eventually, I guess.
