A new trailer for Ant-Man came out. Naturally, I saw it. And considering that judging and criticizing superhero movie trailers (or news or what have you) is kind of my thing (or was), I'm going to talk about it.
Honestly, I think it's pretty good. A bit generic, I'll admit, but it was still a good trailer. It does what I think most full trailers should do: introduce the characters, some of their personality, the villain, the plot, and give a basic summary without giving much away, and also make the trailer enjoyable to watch. It did all of those. The plot, just based on the trailer: a thief named Scott is hired by an old scientist and his wife to stop a bad guy trying to steal shrinking technology. That's a basic summary from the trailer, and that matches up with what I know about the movie. Also, this trailer shows the Ant-Man and Yellowjacket suits (and, I will say, the Yellowjacket one is awesome).
Let's compare this with another trailer, the one for Fantastic Four. A while ago, I griped about this, and I'm still not over it. The Ant-Man trailer didn't have much to prove, except that Ant-Man can be pretty cool, and does it well (though, I'll admit, I find the idea that "being tiny gives you super strength" kind of illogical). The Fantastic Four was a movie that was already hated by some even before a frame of footage was shown. It should've proven why the changes that were made for the movie work. And it didn't. Based on that trailer, I know almost nothing about the movie, and have no reason to see it outside of idle curiousity and because superheroes. The Ant-Man trailer, however, shows that the movie will be fun, funny, epic, and have a lot of action.
This all being said, there are some flaws with the trailer. Like I said, I find the idea that Ant-Man shrinking means he's stronger kind of silly, and he doesn't seem as convincing a hero as, say, Iron Man. Also, the trailer itself was your standard "epic action movie" trailer: some action, some comedy, epic music, you know the rest. Those are my biggest problems with it, though. It was still a good and fun trailer, and I'm honestly curious about the movie now.
That's my opinion. What's yours? Was the trailer good? Did it suck? Do you think I should stop with the superhero thing, and go back to bitching about bad Creepypasta stories (if you do, you know I still do, right?)? Do you wish I'd go back to this stuff? Do you not care at all? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
