I decided, since Dead Silence is a horror movie, why not post this?
Anyway, Dead Silence is a movie about a man named Jamie, who must determine why his wife was killed by a doll. He does so by going through his old hometown of Raven Fairs.
I watched this movie, and I'll list the positive and negatives.
Positives: The pacing is strong-the plot always knows where it's going and never focuses too much on any one scene. Also, although some disagree with me on this, the twists were pretty good-unpredictable, but hinted at. The editing and lighting are good too, setting the tone exceptionally well.
Negatives: Most of the characters are one-note. They suffer from that problem where we only know the details about the characters that concern the plot. For instance, since this movie doesn't concern work, I never learn what Jamie does for a living. Also, the ending (Spoilers ahead!) is incredibly frustrating. Why? The characters, as bland as they are, are put through so much conflict that I wanted there to be a happy ending. Not "and they lived happily ever after," but at the very least, I wanted the main character to survive. The problem? He doesn't.
Final Verdict: As intense as this movie is, thanks to well-done editing and lighting, the boring characters and mean-spirited ending make the negatives overcome the positives. That gives this movie a 4.5/10.
If you want to watch it, it can be viewed on Netflix. If you already saw it, what do you think?
