I’m a huge fan of gothic literature, and literary history. I’ve gone through the evolution of horror literature, I feel like creepypastas have some of its roots there. Maybe highbrow novels like The Castle of Ontrato don’t come to mind; but it the penny dreadfuls of the eighteen hundreds, and pulp magazines since the turn of the century yes.
They sort of have the same spirit as these types of literature. I feel like creepypastas are picking up the ball and running with it. It may not seem this way since it’s on the internet, and the internet isn’t really known for have much to do with class and art so to speak.
My questions are:
Do you see creepypastas as the internet’s version of penny dreadful/pulp magazines?
Is it really too early to see them in this way?
Can they have, if any, literary significance in the genres of horror and gothic fiction?
