  • Even though it happened a few days ago, I just found out that 1999, like Candle Cove, was deleted for copyright infringement.

Damn! How long until all the other classics go down?

    • That is unfortunate. Wished the user/poster had gotten permission from the original author before uploading the story. Shame...

    • As long as the "classics" aren't plagiarized or the author doesn't decide they no longer wish to have their work posted here, they shouldn't go anywhere.

I certainly hope they don't go anywhere, and I certainly hope outside copyright (i.e. if Sony would out of the blue want the Slender Man pages taken down) will not get them delete.

I think it is safe to say that a lot of people have found (and are finding) this site through the classics because of their memic status.

    • It's dubious if 1999 was ever really a creepypasta classic.

It happened to get popular at a time when popular creepypastas could still go internally viral within the creepypasta fandom. But it's nowhere near Candle Cove level classic.

I beg to differ 1999 and candel cove are the first Patas I found.

    • Wait, why can't you just link to a page with the correct copyright lisence on the page and explain the problem? Is there something wrong with doing that?

While it certainly is not Candle Cove level classic, it is still a classic in its own right.

It was one of the last Creepypastas that went viral, it was posted just before Creepypasta started to pale, and it is one of the last Creepypastas written that is truly memorable.

Point taken, but there are still a couple things that mar its legacy. One, the aforementioned plagiarism accusations, and two, the fact that it was never finished (as far as I know).

    • Dang! I really liked that creepypasta. Well, its back to the narrations on youtube...

    • Is there any reason the fabricated entries (which included the video rip-off) couldn't have just been cut out and Camden Lamont credited?

You'd have to ask the person who deleted it. It was Fandom staff, not our local admins, and we don't know if was the original author, the person he plagiarized, or someone else entirely who made the claim.

I know that, but thanks for the heads-up anyway.

I think this goes to further prove my point that FANDOM is getting too bossy.

    • Actually, I looked it up. The first draft of 1999 was written in 2009, the same year as Candle Cove and the original Slender Man posts on SomethingAwful. So yeah, it kind of does have classic status.

The original author did not wish to have it hosted here and used their legal rights to have it removed from all Fandom wikis. This is not a case of Fandom being bossy. I'm not sure how you are inferring this from a copyright take down.
