  • I've recently heard about negative impacts on this website and the effects it has on current society today. After current criminal actions that have been caused, this website has been blamed for intagrating violent and false beliefs among teens in our society. So for research purposes I'm curious to get a different perspective from current members on this website. I'm writing an article in hopes of showing the impacts this website has had on both a positive and negative basis. Please feel free to respond to any of my questions.

    1. Why do you use this website?

    2. How long have you used it?

    3. Has any of it been scary to you?

    4. Do you believe in the content featured? Or did you use to believe?

    5. What caused you to find this page?

    6. How often are you on this?

    7. What did you think when you heard or found this?

    8. Do you want share anything about this page? positive or negative?

    9. Would or who would you recommend this website to?

    10. On a scale of 1-10 10 being the best thing in life how would you rate this website.?

    • If this is about the Slenderman stabbing, you're about four years late to the party.

    • 1. I use this website to read stories.

      2. I have used it for about 4 years.

      3. Some stories have scared me, but the stories which most affect me are usually sweet ones like Hedgehogs.

      4. The vast majority of stories on this site are false.

      5. I came to this specific page because it was written recently.

      6. I come on it about once every two days.

      7. I thought that an unstable child had tried to kill a person and you had come here because it was near the top of the search results for "creepypasta".

      8. I think that, at the very least, your intentions are positive.

      9. I'd recommend it to amateur horror writers who want to get tips to improve their writing, though supersititious people and conspiracy theorists should probably steer clear.

      10. I would personally rate it as a 6.

I'd like to ask you a few things, though.

      1. You say that "current criminal actions... have been caused". What are you referring to?

      2. Have you contacted any other Creepypasta sites about this? Certain sites have different cultures regarding people who believe that the stories are real. Here, the punishment is usually someone commenting, "This story isn't true," possibly more rudely than that.

      3. Where will your work be published? I'm curious to read it if I can.

    • 1. Why do you use this website? To read stories. lol duh

      2. How long have you used it? I have used it for about 4 years or so but made a official account about 3 months ago.

      3. Has any of it been scary to you? No, it takes a lot to scare me.

      4. Do you believe in the content featured? Or did you use to believe? No, its all fictional to me.

      5. What caused you to find this page? Stories

      6. How often are you on this? All the time.

      7. What did you think when you heard or found this? What kind of question is that. LOL

      8. Do you want share anything about this page? positive or negative? As LOLSKELETONS said, if this about the Slenderman stabbing you are way behind.

      9. Would or who would you recommend this website to? To people that know it is fake and not real. Not Dumb Ass kids.

      10. On a scale of 1-10 10 being the best thing in life how would you rate this website.? 10 there is nothing wrong with this site. What ever you heard about this wiki is probably cause some punk ass kid got his feelings hurt because his pasta got deleted cause it did not meet the sites Quality Standards. This wiki is very strict about quality.

This site has no effect on current society of today. You can't blame a site for a story that someone else wrote, blame needs to be on the parents for not teaching there kids what's right n wrong and what's real and what's not.

    • 1. Why do you use this website?

The community size is nice and generally friendly. Many are also far better writers than I am and I have learned a lot here.

      2. How long have you used it?

      Perhaps four months.

      3. Has any of it been scary to you?

A couple creeped me out. I don't think any truly scared me.

      4. Do you believe in the content featured? Or did you use to believe?

Of course not! This is a fiction writing community.

That said, writers do both research and use incidents from their own life as a part of stories. Four of my stories have strong autobiographical elements. Two are rewritten almost to unrecognizability. One actually happened, with some fictionalization. One had a couple of rather unbelievable parts happen, but I added most. I also have used places I know and legends for complete fantasy stories. That's the way for any fiction. Think about Harry Potter. There are real places mixed in with the fantasy and there are famous legends as well as new creations. It doesn't come from a complete vacuum.

      5. What caused you to find this page?

Narrations on YouTube of stories. I read the sites they were on.

      6. How often are you on this?

      Most days.

      7. What did you think when you heard or found this?

Not bad, decent community, generally good quality, the administration seems to be generally good.

      8. Do you want share anything about this page? positive or negative?

I was very attracted by the Writer's Workshop. I bypassed several other sites because they didn't have one.

      9. Would or who would you recommend this website to?

Aspiring fiction writers who want to try this genre.

      10. On a scale of 1-10 10 being the best thing in life how would you rate this website.?

Oh maybe a 6 or a 7. A pleasant hobby. Not as good as my dogs, better than paying my taxes.

From the looks of it, that is exactly what it is about. If you search for Creepypasta on Google News you don't find anything crime related.  Most likely there has not been any Creepypasta related crimes since then and OP just found out about the stabbing.

As for the stabbing itself, I wish people would just drop it. Just because some kids decided to be stupid doesn't mean we should all have to suffer. I doubt those kids even knew about the wikia anyway.

These questions aren't even related to any alledged "crimes" anyway so I suggest nobody else responds to them.

    • In addition to what the others have said, I'd like to point out that there's a more than even chance that the girls involved in the Slenderman stabbing never used this wiki at all.

Slenderman did not originate on our wiki, nor has this wiki been responsible for making Slenderman popular. Odds are the girls discovered Slenderman through Creepypast.com , not this wiki, or maybe Something Awful where the Slenderman meme originated.

The only reason this wiki gets associated with the Slenderman stabbing incident is because back when it happened the head admins here basically volunteered to step up and take the flak for it by being the spokesmen to the public on behalf of the "creepypasta community", while everyone else from Creepypasta.com to the big creepypasta narrators at the time just kind of stepped back and let them. Thus, all the anger from worried parents and questions about the ethics of online horror fiction got directed at us, as well as a bunch of people showing up in our chat (which we got rid of for unrelated reasons about a year later) to ask what was happening as if we knew any more about the incident than had been released to the general public.

No one on this wiki knew the girls involved, as far as we know they never visited this wiki, and like I said chances are they learned about Slenderman through other sites. Plus, I'm not sure of this but I believe it turned out the girls got their inspiration to stab their friend not from the original couple Slenderman stories themselves but from a certain particularly violent Slenderman fanfiction which is not archived on our wiki.

I don't know if you're taking some college class on the power of Internet memes or what, but like others have said your questions don't seem to relate strongly to what you say you're trying to find information about, and therefore I'm with the others in abstaining from answering. If you have specific questions about the ethics of creepypasta, this wiki's potential role in the Slenderman stabbing assuming that's what you mean by "criminal actions", and how online horror fiction could potentially impact the values and actions of young people, I would be more than happy to share my own personal insights, and I'm sure others here would as well, but please recognize that in any case those would be the personal opinions of each person who answered and not a consensus among everyone on this site. Also keep in mind that its been over four years since the Wisc. incident, which is basically a century in internet time, and there has been a lot of user base turnover here since then, such that many of the active users who were around when that event happened are no longer here, and many of the most active current users were not into creepypasta back then.

Exactly what I said. I'll bet they (the stabbers) didn't know about any Creepypasta website at all, they probably heard about it from someone else at their school, or through memes.

I think the admins should consider banning the subject. In my opinion, the Creepypasta community was a victim in that stabbing, too!

    • I see no harm in answering this:

      1. Why do you use this website?

1a. For oatmeal recipes, what else?

      2. How long have you used it?

2a. I've lurked for some 5 years, but became an official member 2.5 years ago.

      3. Has any of it been scary to you?

3a. Initially, yes. But, as time went by, I grew a thick, hard shell, and I now consider stories that manage to give me even a slight fright to be great.

      4. Do you believe in the content featured? Or did you use to believe?

4a. A few of my stories are either re-tellings of true events or based on them, but for anything else that isn't flatout supernatural, it's fiction unless proven otherwise.

      5. What caused you to find this page?

      5a. Accident.

      6. How often are you on this?

6a. I'm the admin, so... every day.

      7. What did you think when you heard or found this?

      7a. Neat.

      8. Do you want share anything about this page? positive or negative?

8a. Banning is a great writer! Also, some admins are arses: only one actually. It's me: I'm the arse admin.

      9. Would or who would you recommend this website to?

9a. Yes, I'd recommend it to anyone who has interest in reading horror stories.

      10. On a scale of 1-10 10 being the best thing in life how would you rate this website.?

      10a. Eh, 8.5 or so.

    • 1. CP and Chill, wink wink.

      2. 5 years.

      3. Scary as in stories doing their job? yeah... sometimes, which is good.

      4. Nope, perhaps one.

      5. Don't remember

      6. frequently

      7. Noice

      8. Eh

      9. I'd recommend this site to anyone who's into reading CPs and general spoops

      10. Nani?!

Okay, on a side note, criminal actions occured once - four years ago, and they were committed by two mentally ill girls. One of which admitted to talking to her "friends from Harry Potter" and to having visits from Voldemort when he wasn't on business trips. These two girls do not represent anyone or anything around here. In fact; i'd rather my kids reading themselves to sleep on this site when they're mad at something or spending their anger away on a violent video game than actually hurting someone. When I get kids that is.

This site does not cause harm... Don't worry :)

    • Mojojooo, There are a few teenagers on this site, but they tend to not hang around for long. We demand that any story that is submitted to the main site meets standards. Grammar, spelling, punctuation, even correct case for the title. I think the average age is like 40 but I am actually a senior citizen.

Because of the age of the creative community here, you aren't going to find people taking stories that seriously. We are passionate about our work, but that would be just as true if we were writing Westerns.

    • Let me clarify something.

Some of the people appear to believe there has only been one Slenderman-related crime. There have actually been three. There has also been a Laughing Jack-related crime (which occured after Laughing Jack was deleted from this website). The problem is that depending on how you define "recent", either none or all of these were recent, with the Laughing Jack one happening in late 2015 and the others happening in 2014.

Also, Mojojooo might be referring to some things based on regional myths or sudden fads and not Creepypastas. The reason I asked them these questions is because I don't know if they understand the difference between these and Creepypastas. I hope they're doing actual research, because otherwise this whole comment thread might as well be pointless.
