  • This here is a fairly simple proposal that I feel wouldn't be an overly big effort to implement.

As it stands the front page is full of goodies for users to browse over. We have PotM, Collabs, Spotlighted Authors and Contest Winners all promoting some of the great new work that is being produced by the community.

However, I feel like we should also have a front page spot for our resident narrators. As it stands, Spirit Voices has devoted herself to producing some fantastic narrations and in some circles she is considered the unofficial CPW narrator. I feel like a great way to advertise her work and the stories she narrates would be to add her narrations to the front page. This could be updated monthly, or every couple of weeks when new content is brought out. If we have any other narrators active in the community (is KillaHawke still around?) they could also be advertised on the home page too, as they produce new content. Maybe have one or two narrations on the front page and change them every fortnight would be good start, but ultimately that's up to the admins.

I feel like this would take a little more organisation than what I have currently impulsively put together but I don't see why we couldn't better advertise our narrations. Not only would this help our narrators gain popularity, but it'd be a good way to draw attention to some older stories that may have flown under the radar but deserve recognition (Stay Shunned, The Shimmering Tree and Stargazer come to mind).

I assume you all know how to vote:

    • Oppose Oppose - The front page already has enough content on it to begin with. Plus it would be more work for the admins.

It would just be clutter for those of us who are devoted to readers who are not members of this site.

UPDATE: The admins can alway install reader tags (like the author tags).

    • Support Support - Frankly, I think it's a good idea. One that could more easily be implemented on a non-FANDOM site, but it could work here as well. It would do all of us good, since narrators would get more traffic, and we would get more traffic.

Of course, that means that the front page would probably need a UI makeover, but that isn't impossible.

    •  Neutral - While I believe it would help spotlight both narrators and authors of this wiki I also agree that the front page has a lot of content on it already. You wouldn't want it to become too cluttered. Now if you alternated out the Author Spotlight and Narrator Spotlight (maybe every other month) then it would not be so bad. It does add a work load to the admins as well. Either way I would not mind.

While that would certainly be a good way of keeping the main page from accumulating clutter, there probably aren't enough user narrators on this site to do it every other month. (I don't know though because I'm not even paying attention to narrations).

There are a a couple I can think of and even if each person only produces one narration a month then that provides enough for four months worth of rotation. And that's assuming we don't have any others that I am not thinking of. Plus, if they had a place to showcase their work to everyone who comes to the site, then it might draw more people to narrate stories. Just a thought.

    • I'm thinking of just adding a new section to the home page for narrations. If people feel that the home page already has enough content, then we can have the narrations stand in while there's no new contest-winners or collabs (seriously those things can be up there for months - I think Hallowroots has been there for over a year, we can always make room if we need to).

Assuming you mean each user, you do have to consider a few things:

      1) Not everyone would want to.

      2) Not everyone has the time to.

      3) Not everyone has the equipment to.

      4) If each person does at least one a month, there is a possibilty that a single story will be narrated a few times simultaneously.

      5) The possibility of someone's Youtube account being shut down.

      6) Some narrators might just be lousy and there might come a time when all the good narrators have already been featured and there is none left but the undesirable ones.

      7) Not everyone has the privacy to (some people have obnoxiously loud roommates).

      8) It might eventually happen where people start making audio-only stories instead of written ones.

I didn't think users could just edit the main page.

Clutter issue aside it will still be a burden for the admins, there will still be a lack of narrators, and it is still unlikely people will pay much attention to it.

    • Neutral Neutral - I like the idea of having a place for showing off narrations on the site, but I'm not sure the front page is the ideal spot. I'd say, "Hey, how about a narration category?" but that would clash with the Video category and make a bott ton of work for somebody to implement the switch, so I won't say that. :b

I meant each of the two narrators I know of and I doubt everyone would want to narrate stories. I doubt I would, even if I had the proper equipment.

      Ah.

Wouldn't that be repetitive and predictable though?

    • This page isn't the place for it, but I am curious to know what it would take to get into the narration racket. If anyone were to message me on my talk page with some basic data on the subject I'd be thrilled and thankful.

I will say though that I'm not sure if it's just curiosity on my part or a real interest in actually giving narration a try. My recorded voice is pretty darn scary, though. ;)))

You should really listen to some narrations by Spirit Voices that was mentioned in the subject of this thread. I think you would be surprised. Also, like I said earlier, there are more people that do it here I am sure. I just only know of two or three. Sprit Voices, NoTime Creepy, and if KillaHawke still does them he could be one.

I think narrations are an important part of the community, and it would be another way for us to both support and attract YouTube narrators.

    • OK, it's my ego here. Anything that boosts my chance of making the "big time" of getting a story narrated, I am in favor of. I'm not sure whether there is main page real estate. We are going to need creativity here. Maybe a descriptive button?

Don't feel bad, I think everyone gets that little ego boost when they get narrated.

    • I support this proposition, narrators need to be viewed somehow, there's a sort of monopoly on who get's views... There's like 5 - 10 big names, but a gazilion narrators nobody has ever heard about.

This needs to be done, or should be done.

      It's a nice idea.

That's another good point. I have found a lot of lesser known narrators that blow the big names out of the water but just haven't reached the right audience yet.

We've one right here, SV is great by all means.
