Since this proposal has received pretty much unanimous support, I decided to go ahead and create this board.

What is this?

Basically, this is a forum for authors to showcase their finished work. In theory, this will give authors a better chance at getting their stories read, give good new pastas more exposure and make it easier for readers to access fresh pasta all in one fell swoop. Let's hope it works that way in practice.

Writer's Showcase Forum Rules

• Your story must be on the main site first. To submit a story, go to Special:CreatePage or follow this guide.
• The thread must contain the following:
1. A link to the story at the very top of the thread, like this:
Story title
(note: the thread title should also have the story title, minus the brackets).
2. A section where you introduce yourself as an author and give a brief synopsis of the story.
3. UPDATE (3/6/15): As of right now, please use WS instead (see template documentation for instructions).
• It it highly recommended that you put it through the Writer's Workshop first, although this is not necessarily required.
• If your story is deleted on the main site, your forum post will also be removed.
• Unfinished stories will be removed.
• The story should have the by-user template (main site ONLY; do not do this in the thread itself).
• Don't include more than one story in a single thread; one thread = one story.
Possible exception: If the stories are a part of a series or if your story is broken into multiple pages due to the length.
• You're allowed to bump your thread once a month for a total of three consecutive months, after which you will have to wait three months before bumping it again. Note that this only applies if you bump it three times in a row. This is to prevent the board from being spammed with shameless self-bumps.

Feel free to leave any suggestions below.

• Should this be linked to in the board description? Once this gets buried in the board, new users might not see it.

• Was planning to do that later.

• I had an idea with this.

I could make a JavaScript slider for the main page which populates itself with the newest entries on the board. I will need a small template though that the user fills out so that the script can parse out some info about the page for display.

        Loading editor
• I can't get to add a page, and I can't change the format off of visual to source editor either. I don't see a place in the upper right-hand corner to switch editors

I honestly haven't even used the visual editor since 2013.

My advice would be to go to your preferences and, under the "Editing" tab, switch your preferred editor to "Source editor".

• So this has a similar story submission upload like in Writer's Workshop?  What if we have a story that was already here before the Writer's Workshop?

        Loading editor
• No, you link to the story and give a synopsis of it in the thread. See rule #2.

Story---> http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Berserk

Hello everyone I'm SilverDarkCureXZ, I sometimes come onto here to write stories. I'm hoping to be able to write more stories that are good in the future. This one is called Berserk, it's about dozens of people being trapped in a shopping mall with very few light sources remaining. Most of the building is covered in darkness and these creatures start appearing in that darkness and kill each other and the people that end up roaming around.

No, you create a thread in the board this is in, adhering to the guidelines above.

Yeah, I agree.

Although, if the author hasn't added the template, it means that he hasn't even read the rules of the board. If he can't take 5 minutes of his time to read the rules and fix the issue, why should we take him/her seriously? Maybe I am being too harsh, but still.

<span id="cpw-ws-title">{title}</div>
<span id="cpw-ws-author">{author}</div>
<p id="cpw-ws-description">{description}</p>

Usage:

You can style the template anyway you want but it must contain the three elements specified above. This template needs to be used only once per thread and it will automatically be loaded onto the front page.

Once I am finished with the script I will message one of the Admins with installation instructions. This template needs to be used in order for a story to be showcased. If it is not present then the thread will be skipped.

• So, my question is: What if people don't go looking through the showcase? I mean, probably everyone (or darn well nearly) is gonna post their pasta in the showcase. It would practically just be another thing saying, "Here's a new pasta!" which we get with the recent wikia activity.

IDK about other people, but I personally have been looking through the showcase quite a bit since it's been set up. It's convenient for readers, since trying to find a good story with the "random pasta" button is often difficult, and it's convenient for authors, since they can get more publicity.

I've looked through it myself and found a couple of good stories.

All the stories in the writers showcase are here. The most recent example of a story that's been posted here is Grasp, by Kieland. To get a story on the Writer's Showcase, you just go to the board & create a thread, adhering to the guidelines in the OP.

• You just need a template with those three elements in it that the author fills out to showcase their story. Without those three elements the script cannot detect the information necessary to showcase the story.

Is the fact that you open span tags and close div tags intentional? Or is that an error?

Yes it is. Just on a side not make sure that users are aware that no more than 256 characters will be displayed in their description and that __NODESCRIP__ in the description block will display no description.

I don't think that's necessary. You can always bump your thread later.

        Loading editor
• Yeah, I'm not saying you should or shouldn't post another story.  I just mean that unless someone specifically comes to the Showcase page there's other way they will get to the story, minus the normal routes.  Once they have the script on the homepage enabled it should allow for some more visibility of the showcased stories...I'm not exactly sure how it will work.  What would be neat is if every time you went to the main page it chose one of the stories from the showcase to display at random, rather than simply pulling whichever article was most recently posted.  I could see that turning into a bump war.

Also, I'll throw this out to any of the admins that want to weigh in: Do we want to cap it at one story at a time per author in the showcase?  If an author wanted to take one down and put another in its place I'm sure myself or one of the other moderators would be happy to facilitate that.  The issue I see is that once this thing actually gets up and running that everyone will simply start posting all of their stories there and it will become as overglutted as the main site.

No, it means to call attention to something. "Bumping" it up in the recent activity feed so it can get more recognition/review.

Just to clarify, to bump something on our forums, you add a new message to the thread. In many cases, when bumping, users will just post a new message to the thread saying "Bump".

• To the admins: as a thought to keep the showcase from being as stale, any complaints if the mods start removing stories from the forum older than, let's say arbitrarily, 3 months? That will stop the forum from becoming overloaded and also maybe provide a reason for people to look at it occasionally.

It really isn't an issue with number as the recently posted tend to take up the front page, it's more that a lot of users don't really visit this thread much and review stories. I tried to in the past, but there are quite a bit and it really isn't a viable method to kindle interest by reviewing each story. I'm not really sure what can increase this thread's popularity, but I know that removing threads will likely cause more issues than resolving.

Is it possible that it may be better to take a much different approach? I don't really have anything in mind at the moment, but I know that there is a user who has made what they call a "curation blog." It's a decent idea that could possibly work with some community - and probably administrative - involvement.
