I have a copy of Mario Kart Wii when I borrowed it from my Japanese friend Katashi. I wanted to do a texture hack for it, so I inserted it into my PC. I copied the game files.
When I looked inside a folder named "CHARS" I looked inside and found a bunch of files that I didn't have time to count them all, so I just copied them all. Then I went to an emulator to make sure it's a perfect copy.
I saw a title screen, made a license, etc. etc.
This icon appeared on the upper right corner of the screen and when I clicked on it, this screen appeared with Japanese text that translated into:
"Play as Maximum Power in Red Gulch Zone to win a rare Purple Coin!"
Then the screen cut to black, and the intro video appeared. The race track looked grey and lifeless, and the lake was red, like blood. There was no audio except faint frightened Japanese whispering in reverse.
When the race started, a reversed version of SNES Ghost Valley 2 began to play, and I thought I heard a faint whisper saying: "STOP"
Whenever I got near a character, white noises would play.
I got close to Mario, him along with his vehicle, was grey, he had a zombie-ish look on his face, and he had red eyes.
I got to the race start/end, but Mario passed me by an inch but the game still counted me in 1st place, so that must be a glitch.
When the screen went to the result screen, the race ended like if it were the last level of a Grand Prix. When Mario appeared on the 2nd place stand, he was stabbed in the heart, stomach, and head with 3 knives and he looked mutilated and in 5–10 seconds he fell on the floor screaming, but "Maximum Power" didn't look happy at all. In fact he looked quite angry for no reason.
Then after the screen faded to black for approximately 1 minute, a picture of Mario appeared but his face looked like if morphed with Sonic's. Also, he had bleeding holes in his heart, abdomen, and brain. It looked morbid. But what really got me was the smile on his face. It was so wide it almost went off his face. I tried to shut the game off but instead of turning off, suddenly, a very loud screech appeared out of nowhere as if trying to give me an ear rape.
So then I tried again to shut it off and then it turned off but I noticed my desktop BG was Mario's mutilated body, patterned up like tiles, much like Sonic in Sonic CD's creepy hidden message, except there was no Japanese text but there was a text in Russian that was translated into:
"RUN-TIME ERROR NO. 666: YOU HAVE MADE A FATAL MISTAKE AND YOU WILL NOW TAKE A PATH TO HELL!"
So I rebooted my PC, then it was completely normal but the Mario Kart Wii files were gone.
To this day, I haven't played Mario Kart Wii since that fucking horrible day.
