My job was to research used computers and delete useless files.

The company I worked for sold used computers; obviously, I had to clean them out so they looked new. One day at work, I was given a laptop. It was in perfect condition. It had only been used once or twice, there were no scratches or fingerprints, and there was only one file, besides the ones that came with the computer. It was called 'Lostfile.exe', and strangely enough it seemed completely empty. But curiosity got the best of me, and I opened the file.

When I opened the file however, the screen's picture went black. A game logo slow faded in. It was "Sonic and Knuckles". It looked like a very plain game, and sounded pretty boring. I hated Sonic games where you had no choice but to play as Sonic, but Knuckles was my favorite character in the series, so I decided to play it and see how it was.

The opening was similar to Sonic 2, but instead of Tails appearing, it was Knuckles. He somehow looked different... only a little, however. His eyes were just black, and his red fur appeared to be very pale, almost pink. I shook it off as a simple coloring error and proceeded to start the game.

The first area I played in was simply called Zone World 1. I was playing as Knuckles, which made me pretty happy. He was still pale, but his look had more graphics than in the opening.

The Zone was nothing at all, just one straight line. There was no jumping or any of Eggman's machines. At the end of the level, instead of the cage with all the animals inside, was Tails, laying there, obviously dead.

I was shocked. Whoever made this game was a sick person.

The screen cut black, followed by a weird, very loud screeching. I turned down the volume but it did nothing at all.  Even at zero I could hear the screeching.

The next level began. I was Knuckles again, but this time, the zone was called Final Zone. The same screeching roared in the background, and this time it only took ten seconds to beat the Zone. However, when I reached the end, the screen cut black.

A text box appeared in plain white letters. 

"Why did you leave me to die Sonic? Why?" 

The computer crashed immediately after.

I was pretty shaken about the whole incident, so I asked my boss who gave us this laptop.

"We never got this laptop from one of the boxes. Are you sure it's not one of the employees' laptops?" she said.

I asked everyone who was in that day.

No one claimed it.
